Looking down (east view) from a basalt-covered hill at the town. The patch of blue is a pool being fed by a natural spring. The camp was situated in an RV park (four black blurry dots in the picture, one of them being a Ford Expedition) ~ 100 m SE from the pool. |

Setting up the tents at about 2 am. Using Expeditions’ headlights and having experienced geologists in the group, we did it in no time at all. Being drowsy and softly blown away by chilly winds, especially after leaving the worm cabins of our beloved trucks, the first night in the sleeping bags was everything but comfortable. We had camped for two nights before we moved into the more comfortable Shear facility across the road. |

Clockwise from the top left figure: (1) The bungalow where some of us slept. (2) A look on Shoshone from the Shear facility parking lot. (3) Chuck Langston is getting ready for the geology briefings that took place on various locations along the valley. The living room was a place of many endless discussions about government conspiracies, physics, celebrities and the relationships between all of those. (4) The kitchen where food was prepared and many cooking related tales told. Well, some of them had nothing to do with cooking! |
