Shoshone

Along the Hwy. 127, the small town of Shoshone, population of ~100, welcomes visitors at the SE end of Death Valley. Here you can find a “real” gas station, a restaurant, a motel, a grocery store and much more (not really).

This once-I-was-for-real pump hides the entrance to the Shoshone museum where one can find exhibits of local geology as well as plant and animal relics. Everything that once was growing in and roaming the countryside.

Yes, once not that long ago, this beast was roaming the countryside too. With summer temperatures that would go to the upper end of the thermometer scale, machinery, together with their operators, fought to survive the Death Valley climate. Now being old, rusty and useless they blend slowly in the surroundings.
