|                         Exposed over most of the southwest slope of Epaulet Peak are
  rhyolitic volcanic rocks, varicolored, but mostly in shades of yellow and
  red. These are the Shoshone Volcanics of

  considerably more than the overlying Funeral Formation.   This stop gives an idea of
  the tectonic activity that’s been happening in the Death Valley region.  Although several thoughts have been
  suggested, part of this history still remains a mystery.   |
