Seismic Resource Center
Established in August,1988 under the management of Gary Patterson, it is a clearinghouse for the acquisition and dissemination of earthquake information in the central U.S.
The Seismic Resource Center:
- acquires information related to the research needs of the faculty and staff at CERI,
- provides information for public awareness and education about earthquakes and earthquake preparedness, and
- directs and implements outreach programs on earthquake information and education.
The Resource Center has accumulated several thousand volumes of journals and books concerned with seismology, earthquake engineering research, and related issues. The collection includes books and journals concerned with disasters, disaster planning and response. The active public outreach program provides information to government agencies, emergency management personnel, hospitals, businesses, schools, the media, and individuals, through presentations, interviews, tours, displays, and distribution of printed material. The continuing goal of the Seismic Resource Center is to provide both scientific and non-scientific information about earthquakes and earthquake preparedness in a variety of formats to all segments of the population in the central and eastern U.S. who might ultimately be affected by a significant earthquake.
