Field Trips to CERI and Speaker Requests

Field trips to the Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI) are available at no cost to school groups in grades K-12 and higher education.  Field trip groups need to be no larger than 50 members.  For larger groups, a speaker may be available to present at your school.  Presentations are approximately an hour long and consist of a PowerPoint presentation with interactive teaching models involving student participation.  The presentation focuses on earthquakes and the New Madrid Seismic Zone, which affect the Memphis area, as well as plate tectonics.  To request a field trip or speaker, please go to Request a Speaker or Presentation.

An online map of the campus showing parking lots is available.  School buses may be parked on the east side of the parking lot on Central Avenue, which is the closest general parking lot to CERI.  For smaller groups, with 10 or fewer cars, parking is available behind 3918 Central Avenue, the Public Earthquake Resource Center (PERC).  CERI is composed of four brick houses and one long, white building.  After parking, go to 3892 Central, home of the Earth Science Library, which is the long, white building that is part of the CERI complex; this building is behind the house located at 3876 Central Avenue.

Presentations and teacher-training workshops are available to groups of teachers.
