News & Highlights

The CR approved by congress last month includes funds to upgrade 7 ET stations and 6 NM stations over 24 months.

The ANSS all hands meeting will be January 10 at 3pm on Teams. See the link Mitch forwarded. It will include highlights for each network that we discussed last month.

The updated performance standards were approved by the NIC last year. The goal is automatic solutions within 6 minutes. This highlights the importance of real-time data. We had two major disruptions to the real-time data within the past 30 days. We need an alarm that watches winston and sends sms message to all staff when X stations exceed Y latency. X and Y are to be determined but a first guess is 12 stations out for more than 15 minutes.

Data paths are complex. Need a way to quickly determine how a station is imported, how it gets to CERI (including which modules on which machine) and which waveserver(s) its available in (should we use a proxy waveserver as AQMS does?).

We have nine applications for the open field position. Mitch will review and seek input from Dave and Jim. The second open field position is in process.

CERI leadership sent an email to P-plant leadership seeking advice on new HVAC for 218. No response yet. Mitch will follow up with them.

end of year funds (both seisnet and 2024DM).

BAT3 permanent install. Need to do the 3 on-deck NM upgrades then BAT3. Holly uses this station often. It's a very good station even with a temp install.

Discussion on down stations on the close list. Depends on level of effort needed. We don't want the closures to get too far ahead of the upgrades. Can close GLST since it's redundant with GLAT. EBZ has been around for a long time but is only used very rarely so it too can be closed. Do not replace channels on the ABB with other analog stations; we'll eventually retire the ABB and mudworm.

NMSZ

DM24 upgrades. Have hardware and supplies to upgrade CACT, ARPT, and STAM. CACT is roughed in. All are too wet for access at the moment. Still trying unable to contact the landowner at STAM to find out where he wants us to move it. Daughter-in-law has left messages with him but he hasn't returned calls. No clue why.

The move to the new building at Luxora is on hold. Moved our equipment to a temporary location. Building has been drug from the slab foundation into the field and the foundation has a large crack through it. Looks like they'll need more than the a day for the new building.

RDST2 needs an IP change though James would like to have someone onsite or available for immediate departure when he makes the change in case something goes wrong and we lose contact.

The big liebert is in need of replacing. Does it need to be a liebert or is there a more cost effective way to cool that room. Sent email from me, Michelle, and Vadim to the P-plant bosses in November but no response. Mitch needs to follow up.

We need hot-spare hardware for the nodes. James has a prototype and will test it at MKTA.

CVTN/CVMS. A contractor, A2H, was hired to design and build the new school. They're aware we're there and are willing to work with us to restore those stations when the time comes.

MPHB remove from earthworm and close it. Pull the sensor as time permits.

Both UALR pipe vaults were full of water. Will replace them with a CERI style surface vault.

The City of Cape Girardeau sold the building housing sm station CBMO. Mitch has been unable to get in touch with the real-estate agent. Dave discovered the buyer is a philanthropist possibly converting it to a museum. He'll periodically check on it when in the area to keep track of changes and establish a new agreement when the time comes.

The property owners at FVM are constructing a new tower. We're on a cell modem so don't really need the tower. They're moved out of the old building and are letting us stay there. Need to move the cell antenna from the tower to the building. Dave moved this antenna on his way back from Thanksgiving.

MGNC is inaccessible.

LRVA is closed due to Helene damage. Need to recover the equipment and find a new site.

GMG and VHTN single-component problems are also long lived and need to be addressed. If disaster recovery and hardening funds become available they may be able to be upgraded to broadband. We only want to dig them up once.

The Dalton link is dead and we're currently using a cell modem. It works but it would be nice to get the Dalton link working again. Jim has made multiple attempts to contact them but they don't return calls.
