News & Highlights

Today is the last day for Zoom. Be prepared for future Teams meetings.

Upcoming dates
8/23 11a Annual Back to School lunch
8/26 Classes begin, expect traffic
9/13 CERI general meeting

STAM radio test failed, need to test with new antennas, alternately use cell but it's isolated so can't be used as a repeater.

Helped Goebel and company install two new stations at LNXT to test before sending to the volcano in El Salvador.

New field tech search is still on hold, working with HR.

Seisnet2025 proposal. Proposal for the next seisnet 5-year funding cycle that runs Feb 1, 2025 through January 31, 2030 is working its way through the University. There will not be yearly supplements so that work needs to be included. SLU station O&M will become part of the base. Also request funding for a subaward to adopt remaining orphaned slu stations except for Evansville urban strongmotion network. Included 5 analog upgrades per year beginning year 2 (installs lag gfe orders by 1 year). Included subaward for a DC metro network. Atlanta will be included in the SC proposal.

Planning was in favor of a fenced compound and offered a couple locations. Mitch recommended the one east of the long building though more could be in the grass and less in the parking lot. Not sure where it's going.

2023 DM

MORT2 is not reasonably upgradable. We also upgraded MARM previously which was on the decommission list so we need a replacement target to close. So, Upgrade STAM for the last 2023 DM upgrade and close MORT2 and WADM. STAM radio test failed. The new antennas at LNXT made all links better so need to test again with a new antenna. Can use a cell modem but not a good spot for repeating any other station so would be the only thing on it.

2024 DM

Funds and the work need to be spent and completed by January 31, 2025.

Continued SLU adoptions O&M.

Upgrade three NM analog stations (cascadia PH w/Centaur from ASL). We selected these three stations: CATM, ARPT, DLAR

New node routers

NMSZ

have equipment and supplies for two more non-GFE analog upgrades: NWCT and CACT.

Xetawaves are installed on the Wilder link. Next up is SFTN, then Luxora. That should clean up that link.

Have hardware for to more upgrades NWCT and CACT.

RDST2 needs an IP change though James would like to have someone onsite or available for immediate departure when he makes the change in case something goes wrong and we lose contact.

The big liebert is in need of replacing. Does it need to be a liebert or is there a more cost effective way to cool that room. Is humidity control so important anymore?

We need hot-spare hardware for the nodes. Clocks, radios, etc, and especially spare atoms. There should be 3 spare atoms with at least one in the rack updated and running. There was a discussion on how best to install node specific configs quickly when needed. Using the rear/duply imaging is a bit cumbersome for this application. Might be easiest to configure on the fly, James says it takes a couple hours. There should be detailed instructions on the shiny new confluence wiki so that James isn't the only one able to do it.

CVTN/CVMS. A contractor, A2H, was hired to design and build the new school. They're aware we're there and are willing to work with us to restore those stations when the time comes.

Replacement batteries are in house for DBB nodes at Wilder, MKTA roof.

MPHB continues to hang; it's an old serial to inernet DM24 system. The sensor hasn't been calibrated in three decades and has been in the borehole for nearly two of them. It is not being archived at IRIS and there is no metadata (Mitch has the original Guralp documentation though it is likely no longer accurate). We discussed whether to turn it off. It doesn't cost anything though isn't useful either. It is a nice borehole in a very noisy location so also not particularly useful from a monitoring perspective. It can be obsolesced as time permits.

Both UALR pipe vaults were full of water. Will replace them with a CERI style surface vault.

The City of Cape Girardeau sold the building housing sm station CBMO. Mitch has been unable to get in touch with the real-estate agent. Dave discovered the buyer is a philanthropist possibly converting it to a museum. He'll periodically check on it when in the area to keep track of changes and establish a new agreement when the time comes.

The property owners at FVM are constructing a new tower. We're on a cell modem so don't really need the tower though may still be disrupted when all the hardware is moved from the old tower to the new and if the old tower is removed. Dave has been in touch with them.

NODE Tasks

DBB:

The building at Luxora will be replaced at the end of the month. The DBB and stations BFAR, DLAR and HOVM will be down about a week. Need to disconnect and remove our hardware then reinstall in new building. Its a prefab so should go quick.

MKTA:

DSL router is offline. Jim will contact Telecom to discontinue dsl. The service at LNXT could be turned off too.

LNXT:

The money pit is hungry again and currently turned off. Bad radiator. It's custom and expensive of course. I believe this thing thinks it's a boat.

NMAD:

AZTN/HDBR:

CERI:

ETSZ

There are several stations in ET with power issues. Need to assume power upgrades were not completed and do site visits to each one to assess current status.

CVVA. Hosts are providing access via a cell router that's no longer working. They are planning an upgrade to get it back. It's back! But is it too far away for us? It's very close to the 2011, Mineral VA 5.8 with not much else around so, while noisy and not used very often, it's very valuable when needed. Can we can get someone local to be our eyes and ears?

STAR Node

DYTN owners are allowing us to stay. They asked for a load of gravel for the access driveway.

The Dalton link is dead and we're currently using a cell modem. It works but it would be nice to get the Dalton link working again. Jim has made multiple attempts to contact them but they don't return calls.

GPS

GPS status page

All GPS stations except Crestview (tornado damage awaiting rebuild of school) are online and operational! Well done!

AG Network

BAT3 will become the permanent Batesville station and BAT1 and BAT2 will be removed.

HHAR is repaired.
