News & Highlights

The director search was not successful and will be conducted again in the fall. We have more time to do more recruiting this time.

We have a large cache of reftek hardware to return to the Depot. There are also 6 decommissioned refteks that belong to the seisnets. ANSS hardware to be returned includes: 16 RT130, 18 RT147, and 9 CMG5TD. Buh-bye. Dave asked if we could use the ceri refteks for something and James said RTPD BAD!

The fish fry on May 6 had 53 in attendance and cost on average $9.87/person. We charged $6 and donations and prior funds covered the rest.

2022 DM funding is approved: SLU O&M, SFTN power, and 4 remaining AG upgrades.

NetOpsXII will be hosted by Caltech the last week of October or first week of November. It is likely none of us will attend.

The ISTI profile study is complete and has interesting findings. Some of our links shouldn't work but do. Some may be improved. We'll likely have to operate more mini-nodes.

ezworm is now on all the servers. Nodes are next though require upgrades so may take a while.

NMSZ

2021 DM ISIS5 upgrades are complete. Two loose ends remain:
Upgraded TYAR from ISIS2 to ISIS3
Decommission CWPT.

Replacement batteries are in house for DBB nodes at Wilder, MKTA roof, LUXO, and EDIT.

We have five UofM Centaur/Titan systems and six I5. Need to upgrade four NM analog stations to digital using this hardware.

MPHB continues to hang; it's an old serial to inernet DM24 system. The sensor hasn't been calibrated in three decades and has been in the borehole for nearly two of them. It is not being archived at IRIS and there is no metadata (Mitch has the original Guralp documentation though it is likely no longer accurate). We discussed whether to turn it off. It doesn't cost anything though isn't useful either. It is a nice borehole in a very noisy location so also not particularly useful from a monitoring perspective. It can be obsolesced as time permits.

WALK needs to move, Dave has a new site selected.

STAM needs to move. Landowner is prepping a new site for us.

HOVM has telemetry interference at the Luxora repeater. No good workaround. Convert it to digital.

NODE Tasks

DBB:

SFTN needs improvements in backup power. Line power is supplied by the no-longer occupied residence owned by the University. We hook in at a circuit box in a nearby shed. Need to add more battery and solar to last up to a week. Funded with 2022 DM.

MKTA:

LNXT:

Need to replace the feedline between the tank and generator.

NMAD:

AZTN/HDBR:

CERI:

ETSZ

411 is now in ET and working well. 385 is back in Memphis living the easy life.

NC is next up for digital conversions. DONE! Need to install PARI (August) and decommisison TRYN. MGNC needs more solar and a new antenna.

RCGA needs to move. John found a City Park in Chattannooga that is a former ammo dump. He's trying to get a permission to do a noise study to relocate the station into one of the bunkers. The city is willing to let us use the park internet.

fgtn needs a solar upgrade to replace the temporary panel.

Replacement station for GTTN and RBNC needs a new plan. A cell modem would provide more options.

WSNC will get a new cell modem this week.

WMTN needs a new Geobit.

Five faulty geobits sent to ISTI.

STAR Node

GRBT and DYTN are Tramell links to single radio at Star Mt. The signal fades causing outages in the morning. It isn't likely to get better. The DYTN path is long but solid. Is long and has obstacles. We can either switch DYTN to a 900M link or GRBT to a cell modem. Mitch approved a cell modem.

The PC is no longer needed at STAR except for SOH. But those weren't working when the crew was there last month for Centaur upgrades.

John will send the STAR SOH hardware to James to figure out how to send alarms. If this isn't in production soon, we're going to bail and get something off the shelf. The GX620's need to be retired.

Move PMTN due to excessive noise and vandalism. The new site, CATN, is permitted and ready to install.

HPNC Node

Convert all HPNC stations to digital using Geobits and Trammel Links. DONE!

MTTN Node Move the atom to the host's rack and remove our rack.

GPS

GPS status page

Bob is going to purchase a new switch so we can piggyback on the hosts internet.

CJTR is down and needs a site visit. It is located in an obsolete part of the base and may no longer have internet. This may not be a viable location for the long term.

MACC is down and needs a site visit. James thinks heat is likely a factor and we might be able to move the reciever to a cooler, or less hot, location.

AG Network

FCAR T120 has to go back to nanometrics. But the new T120 also has excessive long period drift. Is there another problem? Drift usually means vault issues.

Vault for Z41A is in house. Needs to be installed.

WHAR can be put back on the local network.

Temp stations X901 and and X701 need to be transitioned from NM to AG network codes. New temp stations supported by AG should be AG not NM. Those supported by NM will remain NM. This transition is all software configs and metadata though non-trivial to complete.
