NMSZ

The Centaurs follow the same ip model as the Refteks did which uses 10.156. subnets. Reftek used udp via rtpd so it wasn't a problem but with the Centaurs, they rely on a gateway which is the dbb. So if we lose a radio in the dbb the Centaurs lose their gateway and stop transmitting. Or something like that. Need to migrate to a 192. address space. This needs to happen before we upgrading to ISIS5 in a couple weeks exacerbates the problem.

Batteries at NM nodes are 5 years old and need replaced. MKTA is done.

ISIS5 upgrades are waiting on the enclosures that are currently scheduled to arrive at the beginning of September. Telemetry tests are complete; CWPT will need to move. First round of ISIS5 upgrades are:

MPHB continues to hang; it's an old serial to inernet DM24 system. The sensor hasn't been calibrated in three decades and has been in the borehole for nearly two of them. It is not being archived at IRIS and there is no metadata (Mitch has the original Guralp documentation though it is likely no longer accurate). We discussed whether to turn it off. It doesn't cost anything though isn't useful either. It is a nice borehole in a very noisy location so also not particularly useful from a monitoring perspective. It can be obsolesced as time permits.

WALK needs to move, Dave has a new site selected.

STAM needs to move. Landowner is prepping a new site for us.

CWPT needs to move. It doesn't have a digital path and suffers from access and other issues. Jim has a good prospect.

NODE Tasks

DBB:

MKTA:

LNXT:

Repairs are complete on the money pit to the tune of $3600. We're now capable of operating at 85% which is ample for our purposes. Need to replace the feedline between the tank and generator.

NMAD:

AZTN/HDBR:

CERI:

ETSZ

NC is next up for digital conversions. These will all be Geobit/Trammel Links.

RCGA needs to move. John found a City Park in Chattannooga that is a former ammo dump. He's trying to get a permission to do a noise study to relocate the station into one of the bunkers. The city is willing to let us use the park internet.

John found a school near TRYN (Isothermal Community College) that may host internet for us. NC now wants a written agreement and provided a form to request a no-cost lease. The cost for the engineering study is $17k. So we're going hold off upgrading TRYN for now.

GFM has a recurring power problem combined with poor cell coverage. This was repaired but weak cell signal remains. Jim has a new 4G FirstNet cell router on order.

Replacement station for GTTN and RBNC needs a new plan. A cell modem would provide more options.

Misc Problems

GRBT - losing connection daily

STAR Node

GRBT and DYTN are Tramell links to single radio at Star Mt. The signal fads causing outages in the morning. It ins't likely to get better. The DYTN path is long but solid. Is long and has obstacles. We can either switch DYTN to a 900M link or GRBT to a cell modem. A cell modem is preferred but Mitch would like an estimate for all stations likely to need cell modems so we can plan for the costs to the whole ET network rather than add them one at a time.

Freewave upgrades at STAR. There are about 4 or 5 links to the STAR node that use freewaves. These need to be upgraded to Xetawaves. The configs will require some TLC after the ugprade to get them tuned to the path. This is done and the Xetawaves are working well.

The PC is no longer needed at STAR except for SOH. But those weren't working when the crew was there last month for Centaur upgrades.

John will send the STAR SOH hardware to James to figure out how to send alarms.

Move PMTN due to excessive noise and vandalism. The new site, CATN, is permitted and ready to install.

HPNC Node

Convert all HPNC stations to digital using Geobits and Trammel Links.

MTTN Node Move the atom to the host's rack and remove our rack.

GPS

Bob has DM funding for new enclosures. He has travel and staff support but they need to be installed by the end of the GPS fiscal year on Feb 28, 2022.

Need to finish telemetry at Clifton.

AG Network

Centaurs are on order to replace the Refteks at five stations.

FCAR has a borrowed T120. It also has a telemetry upgrade to do. It is also scheduled for a Centaur upgrade and all three will be completed when the hardware arrives from Nanometrics.

WHAR can be put back on the local network.

Permanent portables are becoming a problem. Stations in place more than 18 months should be installed using permanent station procedures to assure the civil works are capable of long term stability.
