Tech Staff Meeting Notes July 6, 2018
The top priority is always repair of down stations.
NM problem stations
ET problem stations
Duty Table updated October 2017
We discussed the idea of a strongmotion station near the student section in the FedEx Forum. We first want to try it without much publicity to see what signals we'll get (Seattle has the notorious "12th man"). We'll try it with a 5TD though that means the whole serial conversion and scream route. James has successfully tested Quickshake.
USGS plans to fund three of our Deferred Maintenance items.
There will be a GPS week rollover (max week count exceeds 1024) in April 2019. Some of our clocks may be affects. Dave Wilson at ASL is taking the lead to contact vendors for information on expected behavior.
SIS areas of responsibility
Make sure Mitch gets an email for any equipment change that will generate a SIS update. Philip Crotwell has an app that let's you do updates on your phone.
We've been inconsistent with portables in SIS. The data do not go to IRIS but arrivals do go to Comcat. Should the metadata be in SIS or not? Answer: While metadata for portables is allowed to be in SIS, its not required.
Dave completed the engine/cam shaft rebuild on #411. It may be good for another 200k miles.

Misc Problems
BETM - spikes
EPRM - spikes
There are 7 ISIS3 upgrades to do in 2018.
Make permanent repair receive mast for WYBT at HOPT install 4or 52 watt panel.
I40 Bridge comms.
PC at the Law School is operational with a waveserver, a winston waveserver,
and a seedlink ringserver. Jim is working on coordination with lane closures
for the lighting upgrades in July. They are working over night but we would
have enough daylight to do one DAS per day. They switch to the side of the
bridge we need access to on July 16.
The I40 DAS compact flash (CF) cards are a known point of failure in the Granites (2 of 7 have failed so far). We will purchase and configure 5 more and install at the same time as the radio. HD4 with its new CF will also be installed at that time.
Test and verify all node alarms.
DBB:
MKTA:
A worker was using a pressure washer at the grain elevator and learned why
you're supposed to turn off the engine prior to pumping gas. The fire
damaged part of our building and knocked out the DSL. Jim's notes
on remaining repairs:
-The Ritter Communications trouble ticket #2538444 -Install 2x8x34 below new door threshold to provide support -Need chisel to install dead bolt striker plate -Need to caulk door and new trim -Reinstall inside door trim and intrusion alarm -Re-paint the front and left sides of building -Install backup AC unit and hopefully clean up the fire fouled unit
LNXT:
Adjust startup delay in transfer switch settings to give generator time to warm up.
NMAD:
AZTN/HDBR: Need to pull the 200' sensor at the weigh station. Probable water damage. There is no budget for this. Should we try to repair the sensor at MPHB and put it at HDAR2 (MPHB is over two decades old, possibly closer to three)? Should we turn off the HDAR2.*.20 channels until the sensor can be replaced?
CERI:
mttnworm and hpncworm have puffy caps and need to be replace ASAP. James says, "Atom PCs for Starr Mountain and High Peak are 98% done. We just need to agree on IP addresses to get them ready."
GFM and DSNC have polarity reversals. These were affected by the ISIS4 bug
but had their canisters replaced last year. Jim reports that the data
at GFM was fixed after the canister replacement on Nov 15, 2016.
See additional notes.
John did a hammer drop test at DSNC on May 2 and the data were discussed
at the meeting. The two drops on the north side show opposite polarity
when they should be the same but both drops on the south side were down.
One way to view that result is 75% show correct polarity so some uncertainty
remains. The data also showed the E/W channel is correct and the vertical
is reversed. John verified the wiring is correct. Further investigation
is needed.
Example from Nov 13, 2017
Example from Dec 3, 2017
John will colocate at temp station at DSNC.
Replacement station for GTTN and RBNC needs a new plan. A cell modem would provide more options.
Need to remove antennas, coax, and any other hardware from the tower at
Greentop. John and Chris will schedule a trip.

Misc Problems
VHTN.EHZ
SHTN- timing fixed? Should be, need to verify.
CPRT - Gaps/comm issues
ETT EHN Does not respond to low frequency signals.
STAR Node
ETT north channel does not respond to lower frequency signals. Need to replace and repair the S-13. John suspects a leaky vault.
Move PMTN due to excessive noise and vandalism. John has a site and sent a draft MOU to Mitch. The University did not ask for changes and asked for the WMA director to sign first, its currently in Nashville for approval. A portable was installed and shows no surprises, it should a good quiet site.
HPNC Node
MTTN Node
PTGV & PTGX came back
PIGT is out.
All GPS sites need PM visit.
TN Department of Corrections owns 640 acres at SCCF in Clifton in central TN with possible locations for the new GPS station. But none of the potential sites are perfect so Bob needs to visit and decide which spot is best. But Bob is in Buenos Aires so it will need to wait til June. The agreement can be initiated in the interim and TDOC would like to combine this agreement with the one for NWCC which has expired. (Note the seisnet agreement is from 2008 and has no expiration).
Z41A has a poor connection with AT&T. Can we switch to Verizon? Yes, Horton got a 2gbyte plan for $20/month. The vault is settling causing occasional offets in the data. It will need to be replaced with a CERI style vault.
HHAR needs a bigger solar regulator. The new one should last a year.
