Tech Staff Meeting Notes October 29, 2012
The top priority is always repair of down stations.
NM problem stations
ET problem stations
Parkin Quake Review.
Routine Maintenance:
NMAD: 4 ISIS and 2 bb
SP: CHRM, DWDM, EPRM, and NWCT
BB: PARM and PENM
LNXT: 4 ISIS and 2 bb
SP: GOBM, CHNM, NNAR, and MCAM
BB: PEBM and HALT
MKTA: 12 ISIS and 2 bb
SP: BFAR, DLAR, LVAR, MSAR, RVAR, LRAR, NHAR, QUAR, TMAR, BVAR, TWAR, and NFAR
BB: HBAR and LPAR
EDIT, NNAR & CHNM: NNAR and CHNM will be redirected to transmit directly to the node instead of through EDIT.

MCAM.EHZ
BRGM.EHE
BVAR.EHN
CATM.EHE
Unk Problem
BETM.EHN - muted amplitude
BLAR.EHN - muted amplitude
LRAR.EHE - muted amplitude
MIST - gain range problem
Isis Oxidation
BACM.EHE
Arkansas network problems
WLAR - still dropping out
Mag. 4.0 gain range problems
These stations had problems with the gain channel during the Magnituded 4 Missouri
event on Feb 21, 2012. It isn't clear to me whether they data channels saturated
or whether there was excessive chatter in the gain channel.

Jim thinks long period drift on GNAR horizontals could be differential heating and cooling of the vault. This site floods so everything is raised and the vault extends above the surface. An earthen berm was mounded about the top but as since subsided and eroded leaving part of it exposed. Need to rebuild the berm.
DBB:
MKTA:
LNXT:
Jim is getting a quote to replace the muffler, exhaust manifold, and vaporizor solenoid.
Mitch needs to modify env_alarm to monitor the ACFA channel. It is no longer a simple binary on/off voltage but rather contains pulses that indicate the status of the 3-phase AC power input.
NMAD:
G and D and the local EMA installed a 25kW generator to power that side of the building. If there's room power-wise would they let us power the rack from it too? We could share the maintenance of the generator. We'd also have to install a transfer switch.
AZTN:
CERI:
Twisted pair from Richardson is extremely noisy causing problems with the analog backbone. Richardson is also on the UM 5-year capital improvement plan to be replaced.
Visit to WKNO tower on south campus was delayed. Mitch to reschedule with Pat.
SC stations are now CO network code though still coming via scream on rhydra1, then export to Columbia.
MCAR is the only remaining station coming in via gcf2ew on anssworm. MCAR loses its connection a half dozen or so times per day.
Replace foam rubber plugs at all year 1 stations (need to notch it to accomodate the GPS pods): ASAR, CBHT, CUET, MCAR, SFTN.
CVVA. The saga continues.
We need a single document (access database excel spreadsheet) to document information on all freefield strongmotion stations to include contact(s), current IP's(eternal/external), what ports are allowed in from what IP's here at CERI, telnet yes or no, trigger levels etc. etc.

Misc Problems
BCRT- interference -spikes - both SM and BB. Also unk problem with BCRT.EHN
See Image
GRBT.EHN - GRBT.EHN trace has the same order of magnitude amplitude traces
as the N and Z (all +- about 100 counts). But GRBT.EHN is still sick. Note
the positive and negative spikes and the lack of microseisms seen on the
other channels. The sensor was replaced on 9/20 but the problem still exists
in the event recorded on 9/25
CMGA-noise See Image
MGNC- spikes
CSTN - gaps
RBNC- spikes See Image
SMNC- gain channel problem
TVNC- gain channel problem See Image
WSNC- unusable-spikes
Strong Motion down
CVVA no internet
STAR Node
Generator is not functional despite EMA's effort to repair. Consider additional battery for starworm.
BHT move. We may need a written MOU with the Catoosa WMA so John gave them the one we did with TDEC as an example. New site on Pilot Knob Mtn. is about about 9 miles to the E NE. The new location does not have a path to Star Mountain but we do now have hardware for the digital upgrade (a Basalt). John obtained permission to install a repeater at the sheriff's office in Wartburg. Was this where we get internet?
BRBC Node
RBNC and CCNC need new radio pairs.
Battery backup is reinstalled but there is still a problem. Currently has only an Off the shelf UPS.
Central Receive: Still have interference from the ham operator. John has an application to for a complaint to FCC that he needs to complete and submit.
WSNC: Fixed transmitter but had to pull the sensor to repair the E-W channel.
MTTN Node ASTN: Change to AC power. We have permission and can install anytime.
PIGT out -- network provider issues
Initial install complete. Need to wrap up loose ends and vett the data.
Recorders 4, 5, and 6 keep doing WD resets.
1 radio link marginal on AZTN roof.
WLAR has large latencies and poor internet connection. Something odd is also going on with the Reftek and it may be losing power or cycling. Works fine with no outages when the reftek is operating at the VC connected directly to the router. So the problem must be between the station and the router.
Chris is looking for suitable bags to protect CMG6TDs during burial. First experiment with a bag under water failed.
Gravity meters went to Houston for a rebuild.
We have several bad CMG-6's. Should they go Guralp for repair? Who pays for it?
Need to pull the 6 CMG-6's borrowed by NELE then do a huddle test with all of them. The array is currently in disarray from extended extensive use.
Chris reports 3 stations appear to be down.
New door locking scheme got delayed.
The seisnet group on umdrive is at http://umdrive.memphis.edu/mwithers/seisnet You will need your uuid and password.
