Organizing committee meeting June 6, 2022 via Teams Mitch Withers Philip Crotwell Aparna Bhaskaran Ellen Yu Matt Gardine Lynda Lastowka Jake Walter Rayomand Bhadha (regrets) Bill Barnhart Bill provided background and reviewed the charge. Lynda volunteered to be the chair. Thanks Lynda! Will be an in-person meeting not hybrid. Can we have recordings available? Beckman Aud at Caltech has good A/V and we can make recordings. Who is the target audience? Software developers primarily. Those who borrow and modify from the primary developers. Are there common development efforts to focus on? AQMS Shakemap Machine Learning Cloud migration SOH testing and production moving productivity to the web browser (Philip). Browsers an obvious way to make products available and user friendly--web interfacers. FDSN web service comes to mind. Where/what do we want to seee broader coordination among networks? Development coordination--how to work together better. Not easy to discover what others are doing. What's needed for better/more coordination in development? Recommendations at the end of the workshop are valuable. ANSS development is under-resourced. How to make development faster and more efficient from idea to production. Include mgmt so they can see issues developers are struggling with. Discover other developers and their tools. USGS has best practices and procedures for delopment and release. Another common problem or issue to solve. Used to have ANSS developers group. ANSS SWG is mostly focused on AQMS? Need to have a directed focus more than just sharing so people can go back after the workshop and get to work on it. We could have a problem and solve it at the workshop. Need develpment standards and best practices. Should we have an ANSS development document? Can a goal of the workshop be creating this document? Would like to discover what people are doing. A poster session or round robin? Have extended introductions? Coordination and sharing should a theme of the workshop. But need a concrete solution for it not just a Kumbaya. Doesn't have to be fully complete at the end but should have a framework we can build on. Okay to also include a focus like machine learning but it should have broad interest. Is there a space on gitlab we can use? There is the SW gitlab. When does something become public is a major issue for development? How do we make microdecisions like organizing software contributions? Should we make a community on github for the workshop that everyone could log into and participate in? More people are using small computers at sites (e.g. Raspberry Pi). Is there a development effort for these? Something like edge computing or class C networks? Could some apps be web pages instead of apps? What new technologies can we adapt to better meet ANSS goals? We could spend a week talking about this. Next meeting 6/24 Need a meeting site. Mitch's vi web-pages are great in 1999. Need to create a NetOps github or gitlab community and put meeting information there. Hotel instructions, agenda, location etc. Can migrate old NetOps pages to the new space and include archived photos, ppts, etc from prior NetOps.
