NetOpsIII Conference call notes January 16, 2009

Participating: Mitch Withers, Roger Hansen, Bill Leith, Paul Okubo, Joe Fletcher, Lind Gee.

Regrets: Bodin and Acosta.

Mitch had to drop off the call early (not long after it started) because of a small 2.8 Md earthquake that occurred during a fortuitous phase of the news cycle. Roger nearly had to do the same for a magnitude 1.8 but found others to handle the media maelstrom.

The group ageed to focus the NetOpsIII workshop entirely on strong motion recording of earthquakes, broadly described. It would ideally be held in the first half of May (in advance of the Earthscope workshop, May 12-15, but could overlap if necessary), to allow sufficient time for the working group on strong motion stations to complete its work. NetOpsIII would be held in either Pasadena or Menlo Park, with Pasadena slightly preferred because of its proximity to Kinemetrics.

Topics that could/should be covered are (these are not in order, see below):

WORKING GROUP MEMBERS SHOULD REVIEW THIS LIST

The next task is to order these into a straw agenda. Bill would then like to circulate that for discussion in the next NIC conference call (1st Friday in Feb., will be all-network managers) to get feedback from the broader group, select target dates and location/support. So there's a bit of work to be done in the next three weeks.

WORKING GROUP MEMBERS SHOULD SUGGEST AN AGENDA ORDER AND POSSIBLE AGENDA ITEM LEADS

We really appreciate everyone's taking on the additional work of planning yet another NetOps workshop. This will be a very important one for all of the networks.

PS. Nobody was hurt in the earthquake.
