The USGS field office was established to provide a point of contact for the public, engineers, scientists, and emergency managers for USGS information and activities in the Central United States, and the New Madrid seismic zone in particular.  It is located at Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI) on the campus of The University of Memphis.  Currently, the USGS supports three full-time scientists, one part-time GIS expert, one part-time education & outreach specialist, and one graduate student at CERI who work in cooperation with CERI faculty and students on projects of mutual interest. The USGS scientists are also adjunct faculty of the University of Memphis and serve as graduate advisors. The USGS earthquake program also supports over 20 scientists in other parts of  the country.
