Geosystems

Title: This title is definitely up for grabs. As you read below, you'll see that one title might be: Geosystems: Connections and Couplings in Earth Science.

Summary.

This is the course that would most uniquely characterize this concentration. It aims to be a holistic, interdiscplinary course that brings together a carefully selected number of processes/issues that demonstrate coupling and integration. Many of you might think of better examples than I, but one that springs to our minds is the coupling between mountain growth, evolving seaways, and climate. Another might be the onset and decline of glaciations that couples to landscape development or ocean circulation, etc. Another might be the coupling between nature and society as experienced through disasters. Another might be the relationship between human civilization and climate changes. Or at a longer time scale, the connection between mantle convection, superplumes, and continental flooding.

I know of no book that does this, so this would be a difficult course to put together. But it could be done!
