To set up your netscape 4.7 email client to send and receive email follow
the steps below.
| 1.) | From the menu bar from netscape communicator choose the edit pull down menu. On the pull down menu that is an option for preferences. Choose the preferences option. When you have selected preferences a window like the one below should magically appear. The window is know as the "Preferences" window. |

| 2.) | On the left hand side of the preferences window you will see a "tree" of configuration items. One of those items will be labeled "Mail & Newsgroups". Expand the "Mail & Newsgroups" branch by clicking on the "+" that is to the left of the label. If done properly you should see an expanded branch of configuration options like those in the picture above. |

| 3.) | Chose the identity "leaf" from the "Mail & Newsgroups" branch. When the identity leaf is chosen you should see a form that allows you to fill out information that identifies you to your email recipients. Filling out this form should be pretty straight forward. |

| 4.) | In the picture above you can see that the "Mail Servers" leaf of the "Mail & Newsgroups" branch is select. If you haven't already select "Mail Servers" on your email client do so now. You should now see a form that allows you to define what email server your client will connect with to retrieve mail. In the picture above there is a text box in the upper middle portion of this window there is a text box that is labeled "Incoming Mail Servers". You can see that this client is configured to connect to a mail server called "mail". To the right of this text box there are 3 buttons: "Add", "Edit", "Delete". For this example I have chosen to modify this entry by selecting the edit button. Click edit in your "Preferences" window and proceed to the next step. |

| 5.) | After clicking the "Edit" button in the previous step you should see a new window. The new window should be similar to the one above. Notice the tabs at the top of this window. You should see three tabs: "General", "IMAP", "Advanced". Make sure the "General" tab is active by clicking on it one time. When the general tab is active there are three text boxes in the window. They are labeled: "Server Name", "Server Type", "User Name". The text boxes should be modified so that they display the same information as the window above, with exception to the "User Name" field. The "User Name" field should contain your University of Memphis universal user id. If you have not visited Client Services to create a "uofmusername" you should visit their office or try creating your own account at the account creation web page. If you have filled out all of the "General" information, click on the "IMAP" tab and continue with step 6. |

| 6.) | When the "IMAP" tab is active you see 4 square radio button and 3 circular radio buttons. The picture above shows an example of which buttons should be checked. Click the "OK" button on your "Mail Server Properties" window and get ready to finish the configuration with step 7. Just in case you were wondering, it isn't necessary to modify the configurations under the "Advanced" tab. |

| 7.) | Assuming that you finished the previous step you should be back at
you "Preferences" window. You will need to modify the information
in the two text boxes in the left portion of this window that are labeled
"Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" and "Outgoing mail server user name".
The "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" text box should contain what is displayed
above. The "Outgoing mail server user name" should contain your University
of Memphis universal user id. After completing these steps click
the "OK" button.
